VIKING SPOIL END OF A GREAT RUN AND A GREAT SEASON
Ulverley Hawks 0
Vikings 4
They came and they conquered, the Vikings are always a tough team and today they proved just that. We were on for our 8th win in a row, we were at home and were guaranteed 3rd in the league, but nobody told the Vikings that. They battered us from the very 1st whistle but to be honest we really didn’t show up today lads, with only Kav in goal showing any form, coming off his line sharpish to keep the Vikings at bay and keep the score down, and almost respectable anyway let’s forget about today it was a none event and let’s look back over what has been an exciting eventful season.
We started the season way back on September the 04th with 18 players and giving Boldmere a 2 nil start only to fight back with goals from John, George and Shea to snatch all 3 points what a great start. We followed that with a gutsy home draw to bournville, again coming back from2 nil down to snatch a draw, then winning a couple on the bounce in cup and league. Then we seemed to have a dodgy run the rotation system didn’t work with players getting fed up and leaving because of playing time, we understand that now and have learnt from it, problems came about when we had a game coming up and the players who’s turn it was to rest was our 2 centre backs or our 2 strikers, not an ideal situation for us to be in. We didn’t want any of the players to leave but wish them lots of luck for the future but think it did wonders for the lads who stayed they seemed to gel really well and started to play some really positive football. All the new lads who signed at the start of last season have really come on and improved and been great to have in the team making it stronger and also made a difference.the lads who have been in the team for years also mucked in and did their fair share. There’s been some highs and lows, getting knocked out of both cups was painful and I really think we were very unlucky losing to our good friends Redditch on pens then losing to sporting FC when playing in a tornado which even made our manager disappear from the sidelines, but I think there were more highs, winning away at a very good Bournville side with 10 players, winning away at Arden in a really tough local derby and going on a amazing run of 7 wins towards the end of the season, going from 4th from bottom to finishing 3rd from top and just missing out on second spot so well done lads you should be really proud of yourselves the league don’t lie you are a very good side. The help we got earlier in the season in training methods helped us greatly, with not only the lads learning from it butAndrew and I too. Many thanks, on the whole, it’s been an entertaining season running with 10 or 11 for allot of our games but credit to them lads they have been nothing short of magnificent. We will look to build and learn from this season and hopefully keep the same core of players with maybe one or two new additions but if we can keep the squad we have finished with the future looks bright and I am sure we will be challenging for every thing next season and it will be even more exciting. Thank you to Suneel and Cognizant for being our sponsors and supplying us with balls and a new red kit our white one needs updating just letting you know well in advance mate. Thanks must also go to Nick and all at Silhills they have made us feel so welcome and I honestly believe we have the best facilities and parents in the league, also thanks to Julie for the painful job of doing all the paper work and collecting subs, thanks to Mary for doing the lads drinks and last but not least to Andrew our manager who is great with the lads, the way he talks to them and the mutual respect they show him is really heart warming and a credit to both Andrew and the boys. Next year all we ask is a bit more support and commitment on training nights we really do need the boys there I will be arranging some tournaments and friendly’s and will keep you posted and informed on them they are fun for the lads so if you can come along please do. Let’s look forward to an even better 12/13 season and may theHawks fly even higher. P.S we are having the lads appraisal evening this Thursday 6.30 -8pm at our home ground silhills please do attend its just a quick chat on how the season unfolded and a chance for you to air your views and ask any questions cheers Fin.
